Since the time I was 7 years old, I have been working in and around the construction industry. Here are a few tips that are tried and true.

Washing Machines

If your washing machine is connected to the hot and cold water supply with black rubber hoses, you should replace them with flexible braided metal hoses. These will last longer and won't break when you're on vacation! It's the best $15 flood insurance you can buy. I may have 10% coupons for Lowe's Home Improvement Stores. Heating / Air Conditioning

Change your filters monthly. Reduced air flow can result in your interior coil freezing up. Dirty filters can also let your coil fill up with trash, resulting in an expensive service bill.

If your HVAC system seems to "sing" in certain rooms, it might be the registers. Sometimes the little fins get crimped flat in shipping or installation. Take a pair of pliers and open them up a little to stop the "singing".
